Did you know that there are 3.5 billion Google searches every single day?

If you have a small business, it’s crucial that you’re showing up when customers are trying to find you.

After all, if you don’t show up, they’ll choose whoever is at the top of the list: meaning you lose customers to your competitors.

I’m here to provide you with 10 simple ways you can improve and increase your SEO rankings.

1. Content, Content, Content!

Content is your tool and weapon to hold your audience’s attention.

A great way to keep a person on your site is by proving meaningful and relevant content that is useful to the user (such as this article you’re reading).

This influences your dwell time, or the time users spend on your site, which substantially effects your ranking.

On the other hand, great content not only keeps customers on your site but also attracts new visitors to your site.

This way, you’re attracting new visitors constantly while simultaneously bringing them back with more content.

This increasing your traffic and dwell time, allowing your rankings to soar.

Content can also entice the user to bookmark your site, which also increases your SEO ranking.

72% of internet-marketers consider content creation as the most important pillar of SEO ranking.

2. Originality is Key!

On top of posting quality content, you must also make sure that it is original.

Google loves original content, and when your site has duplicate content or plagiarized articles, it can GREATLY hurt your ranking.

Posting original content is also essential so you can also earn the trust of your audience, which also helps your SEO.

3. Shorten That Load Time

Speed, speed speed. It’s absolutely essential to have your website load as fast as possible. If it loads slow, it can hurt you in 2 ways:

1. Google detects this sloth speed, which will hurt your ranking and send you lower down the list.

2. Visitors don’t engage with your site because of how long it takes to load, also hurting your ranking.

Did you know…

Slow page load times cost a business $1.6 billion in sales YEARLY as calculated by Amazon.

Even scarier is that 40% of users leave a site if it takes more than 3 seconds to load.

Scariest of all, 80% of visitors will never return to that slow-loading site.

Now, on the contrary, having an optimized site that loads quickly will keep visitors coming back due simply to the nature of convenience of your site.

Optimizing images on your site is a great way to decrease your load time.

4. Top-Notch Optimized Images

A picture speaks a thousand words. The same goes for your site.

Ensure your ranking to be the best it can by using high quality pictures on your site, while optimizing them to load the quickest they can.

Things like format and size play a huge role in boosting your rankings.

For example, if the file size is too big, this could hurt your load time and in turn hurt your ranking. To solve this, simply compress your images.

You can also use the pictures to rank terms and words, by using the image title, alt text, description, file name, and caption.

These fields will allow you to create a relevancy link between the image content and search engine, increasing your rankings.

5. Header Tags

Simply put, header tags make your website easy to read.

Just as I have with this article, add heading titles that are big and bold and clearly separate blocks of information.

(Feel free to use this article as reference when designing your own!)

This will allow your user to more quickly recognize what your page is about, as well as can create intention for them to return to your site to find that “remembered” information.

You can even string in keywords into your headings, as Google strongly takes into consideration the keywords use in heading tags.

6. Formatting

This all comes down to giving your user a good experience.

A clean designed site will explode your dwell time and user engagement.

These are absolutely crucial for your ranking, and are pretty easy to accomplish.

Use our site Market Share Media as an example.

  • Make sure your layout is clean, simple, and easy on the eyes.
  • Add bullet points and numbered lists where deemed appropriate (just like this text)
  • Use header tags to seperate out content.

All of these things put together will help your user experience and in turn help your ranking.

7. Meta-Description

The meta-description is a small excerpt that gives an “intro” to the pages content.

This information is displayed directly under your page title on Google and is ultimately what makes the user decide whether they click your site or not.

You must have compelling text here to increase your click-through rate.

You can even insert keywords into this section, which will show up bold if searched by the user.

Blog posts when created are what we call “Indexed Pages”.

These are essentially pages that show Google that your site has a “Pool of Information” and helps it rank higher.

Having a blog shows that you provide value for your audience (as I am now 😉) and helps put you higher up on Google.

53% of Online Marketers actually consider blogging the #1 priority.

Having blog posts will allow you to use that many more keywords, which will widen your range of audience.

This will also help your sites readability, as well as helping engage with visitors.

Outbound links are a great way to expand the authority of your site.

If your site is linking to lots of credible resources, your content’s relevance boosts and the visit time of readers will increase.

Google decodes outbound links as signals of credibility and ethics, ultimately getting you a better ranking.

Pro Tip: MAKE SURE YOU FIX ANY BROKEN LINKS! This can absolutely destroy your ranking! ⚠️

10. Battleplan for keywordS

Keywords are absolutely everything when it comes to SEO.. It’s very crucial you put in the work and time necessary to ensure that your site ranks the best it does!

Luckily, keyword tools can make things easy by picking out keywords, which you can then build content around.

The great thing is once you find a keyword that works, you can find other relevant keywords to include in your content!

I’ve listed a couple resources here you can use: by Neil Patel (my favorite)

Google Search Console

Google Trends

If you can, keep your content anywhere from 2000-2500 words to rank higher in search engines.
